GUJARAT — A journey from Rajasthan turned into a nightmare in the early hours of Friday, March 13, when a private luxury sleeper bus caught fire in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, leaving one person dead and six others injured.
The incident occurred around 3:30 AM near Nenawa village in the Dhanera taluka. The bus was en route from Nachna, Rajasthan, to Ahmedabad. Most passengers were asleep when the blaze broke out, quickly transforming the vehicle into a fireball.
According to Dhanera police, the fire spread with such speed that passengers were forced to take desperate measures to survive.
Narrow Escapes and Casualties
As smoke and flames engulfed the interior, panicked travelers shattered window panes and jumped from the moving or stationary vehicle to escape.
- Fatalities: One passenger was unable to escape and was charred to death inside the bus.
- Injuries: Six others sustained significant burn injuries.
- Condition: Local authorities confirmed that several of the injured remain in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
Investigation Underway
“The fire engulfed the entire bus almost instantly, triggering chaos,” a police official stated. While the wreckage has been secured, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Forensic experts are expected to examine the vehicle to determine if a mechanical fault or short circuit was responsible for the tragedy.
