New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of ₹131 crore for India national cricket team after their historic victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Co-hosts India, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, lifted the trophy with a commanding 96-run win over New Zealand national cricket team in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The victory allowed India to successfully defend their title, making them the first team in history to retain the T20 World Cup. It also marked India’s third title in the tournament, further strengthening their legacy in the shortest format of the game.
In an official statement, the BCCI congratulated the players, coaching staff, and selectors for the remarkable achievement, calling the victory a reflection of the depth and strength of India’s cricketing system.
BCCI president Mithun Manhas described the triumph as a proud moment for the nation, noting that defending the title on home soil made the achievement even more special. He praised captain Suryakumar Yadav, head coach Gautam Gambhir, the entire squad, and the selection panel for their outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia highlighted that Indian cricket is currently enjoying a golden phase. He pointed to the team’s recent successes, including the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup victory at home last year and the latest T20 World Cup triumph. Saikia also credited former BCCI secretary Jay Shah for strengthening the administrative and structural framework of Indian cricket and enhancing its global stature.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, joint secretary Prabhtej Bhatia, and treasurer A Raghuram Bhat also praised the team’s unity, discipline, and composure. They emphasized that careful planning and a strong cricketing foundation played a major role in India’s success.
In the final, India posted a massive total of 255/5 — the highest score ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final — before dismissing New Zealand for 159 in 19 overs.
With this victory, India now holds a total of 14 ICC trophies across senior and Under-19 competitions, surpassing Australia national cricket team’s tally of 13. The win also cements India’s position as the most successful team in the history of the T20 World Cup.
