DIPHU: In a swift and coordinated operation, police successfully rescued two teenage schoolgirls from Karbi Anglong district who were allegedly lured away by three youths from Delhi on the pretext of securing jobs.
The breakthrough came after the Diphu Police tracked the suspects and coordinated with the Bongaigaon Police, who intercepted the Delhi-bound train and rescued the minor girls.
The rescued girls, students of Class 10 and Class 12 at the Diphu Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, had left home for school two days ago but failed to return. After a frantic search yielded no results, their worried family members filed a missing person’s complaint at the Diphu Police Station.
Taking immediate action, the police launched an investigation and traced the location of the girls to a moving train. Diphu Police instantly alerted their counterparts in Bongaigaon to intercept the train.
Social Media Trap and Arrests
According to law enforcement officials, the investigation revealed a classic case of social media grooming. The three accused had allegedly befriended the young girls on Facebook, eventually convincing them to leave their homes with promises of lucrative job opportunities in the national capital.
The three suspects detained during the operation have been identified as:
- Ramen Kumar (18)
- Rohit Chand (19)
- Roshan Kumar (18)
Modus Operandi : Police revealed that the trio had traveled all the way from Delhi to Diphu. To execute their plan, they stayed at the residence of another local youth, whom they had also befriended through social media platforms.
Interrogation and Next Steps
The rescued girls and the three detained youths have been brought back to the Diphu Police Station for intensive questioning and further legal proceedings.
With the rising threat of organized crime syndicates targeting vulnerable minors in the region, officials confirmed that a deeper investigation is currently underway. A senior police official stated that they are investigating all angles to determine whether the detained youths are part of a larger, organized human trafficking network.
