IMPHAL — In a major push to curb illegal activities and maintain public safety, the Manipur Police and security forces arrested four individuals in separate operations across Imphal East on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The operations led to the recovery of firearms, live ammunition, and communication equipment.

In a concurrent breakthrough, police also intercepted a massive shipment of illegal liquor in the Imphal West district.


Arms Smugglers Apprehended in Imphal East

Security forces launched a targeted operation at Keibi Awang Leikai Yaibirel, under the jurisdiction of Sagolmang Police Station. The team successfully apprehended two alleged arms smugglers and recovered a significant cache of ammunition.

Details of the Arrest:

  • Individuals: Lisham Naoba Singh (38) of Uyumpok Mamang Leikai and Laishram Chingkhei Meitei (23) of Sugnu Tangjeng Bazar.
  • Seizures: 110 rounds of $5.56 \times 45$ mm live ammunition and two mobile handsets.

Authorities stated that the ammunition was likely intended for illegal circulation, posing a severe threat to the region’s security.


In a second operation on the same day, police conducted raids at private residences in different locations under the Porompat Police Station limits. Two additional individuals were arrested for the possession of illegal weaponry.

Arrested Persons:

  1. Thingujam Suresh Singh (40), also known as Bimol, a resident of Sekmaijin Khunou (currently staying at Khurai Tongbram Leirak).
  2. Moirangthem Dayamoi (39), a resident of Khurai Soibam Leikai.

Items Seized:

  • One .32 pistol with a magazine and one live round.
  • One BAOFENG handheld communication set with its charger.
  • Two mobile handsets and an Aadhaar card.

Major Liquor Haul in Imphal West

Expanding their crackdown, Manipur Police intercepted a truck on December 22 at the New Keithelmanbi area under Patsoi Police Station. The vehicle (registration MN05C-3481) was found to be transporting a massive consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

The driver, identified as Ahongsangbam Thenden (55), was detained. A total of 1,200 cases of liquor were recovered, including:

  • 328 cases of Old Monk rum (quarter bottles)
  • 642 cases of KD-90 rum (full bottles)
  • 230 cases of Kingfisher beer

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of these illegal consignments and to identify any broader smuggling networks operating within the state,” the police confirmed.
