A festive occasion turned into a gruesome tragedy in the Thuribari area of Mongolian, under Bijni Police Station, after a man allegedly murdered his wife following a late-night domestic dispute fueled by alcohol.

The incident, which occurred late Friday night, has sent shockwaves throughout the local community.

The tragedy unfolded shortly after the family had hosted a naming ceremony for the couple’s granddaughter. According to local reports, both the accused, identified as Sukur (Shukur) Basumatary, and his wife, Sabita Basumatary, had been consuming alcohol during the celebrations.

Around midnight, a heated argument reportedly broke out between the two. The confrontation escalated rapidly, and in a fit of rage, Sukur allegedly attacked Sabita with a sharp weapon, inflicting fatal injuries. She died on the spot.

Police Action and Investigation

Bijni Police arrived at the residence on Saturday morning after being alerted to the crime. Authorities have confirmed the following actions:

  • Arrest: Sukur Basumatary was taken into custody from his home without resistance.
  • Body Recovery: Sabita’s body was recovered and transported for a formal post-mortem examination.
  • Investigation: A case has been registered, and police are currently investigating the exact sequence of events that led to the violent outburst.

The brutal nature of the killing, occurring on what should have been a day of family joy, has left neighbors and relatives in deep distress. While initial reports point toward a domestic dispute aggravated by intoxication, the police are working to determine if there were underlying motives behind the sensational murder.
