Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a set of major initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s education ecosystem and providing financial support to students.
Under a newly introduced scheme called Jibon Prerana, graduates of 2025 will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 2,500 for one year. The initiative is designed to assist young graduates as they prepare for competitive examinations and search for employment opportunities.
In addition, the state government has announced one-time financial assistance for research scholars. PhD candidates will receive Rs 25,000, while Divyang (specially-abled) scholars will be provided Rs 40,000 to support their academic pursuits.
To enhance employability and technical expertise among youth, the government will also establish Industry 4.0 Technology Centres across Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), focusing on equipping students with modern, industry-relevant skills.
The Chief Minister stated that these initiatives will complement the existing Nijut Moina Asoni, launched in 2024 for girl students. Together, both schemes are expected to benefit around 10 lakh students each, contributing to higher education access, critical thinking, and efforts to curb social challenges like child marriage.
Highlighting inclusivity, Sarma noted that male students from economically weaker backgrounds enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate courses will also receive monthly financial assistance, helping them continue their education without financial strain.
The newly announced measures are expected to significantly expand educational opportunities and improve job readiness among Assam’s youth.
