Guwahati: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the tragic death of beloved Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has achieved a significant breakthrough, successfully retrieving the complete, deleted video footage of the final moments. This evidence, recovered from the mobile phone of singer Amritprabha Mahanta.
Sources close to the investigation confirmed that the SIT’s cyber experts, through forensic analysis, managed to recover the video in its entirety. The footage, believed to be critical in establishing the sequence of events leading to the singer’s death, was reportedly deleted from Amritprabha Mahanta’s device and another seized electronic gadget.
During questioning, Mahanta, who was one of the individuals present with Garg in Singapore and has since been arrested, allegedly admitted to deleting the footage under instructions from Zubeen Garg’s manager, Siddhartha Sharma. Both Mahanta and Sharma are among several individuals, including event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta and others, who have been arrested in connection with the high-profile case.
The full, recovered video is now with investigators, who believe it will provide undeniable evidence to shed new light on the events on the yacht in Singapore where Garg died.
The SIT, operating under the Assam Police’s CID, is intensively examining the digital evidence as part of its ongoing probe, which has also included questioning numerous associates, band members, and family, and uncovering alleged financial irregularities. Investigators have emphasized that every recovered detail will contribute to ensuring accountability and delivering justice in this case, which has gripped the attention of the state and the nation.
The investigation continues to deepen, with officials determined to establish definitively whether Zubeen Garg’s death was accidental or the result of a criminal conspiracy.
