As a tribute to the late cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the Assam government has announced that September 22 and 23, 2025, will be observed as Dry Days across the state. This move follows the extension of the official mourning period in honour of the celebrated artist.
An official statement from the Excise Department confirmed that the decision has been approved by the Governor of Assam in accordance with Rule 326 (a) of the Assam Excise Rules, 2016.
“All licensed establishments — including those involved in the manufacturing, wholesale, and retail sale of IMFL, beer, and country spirit — such as warehouses, bars, clubs, and both ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ premises, will remain shut on these days. No sale or service of liquor will be permitted,” the notification reads.
The state government has called upon residents to observe the Dry Days with respect and reverence for Zubeen Garg, whose legacy continues to inspire generations through his music and cultural contributions.
