Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Assam this weekend to campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

According to reports, Shah will arrive in Guwahati on Saturday evening and participate in a major roadshow in support of BJP’s Guwahati Central candidate Vijay Gupta. The roadshow is scheduled to begin at Arya Vidyapeeth Playground and will move through several parts of the constituency, drawing party workers and supporters.

Following the roadshow, the Union Home Minister will hold a meeting with BJP state office bearers at a hotel in the city to review election preparations.

Sunday Campaign Schedule

On Sunday, Shah will continue his election campaign in different districts of Assam. He will first address a public gathering at the Dhekiajuli Tea Estate football field in Sonitpur district in support of state minister Ashok Singhal.

Later in the day, he will travel to Tihu to campaign for minister Chandramohan Patowary, addressing a rally at Chamata Higher Secondary School field in Nalbari district. The rally will mark the conclusion of his two-day campaign tour.

Second Visit Scheduled for April 2

Shah is also expected to return to Assam on April 2 to campaign in the Barak Valley region. During this visit, he will address rallies in support of minister Krishnendu Paul at Lalmati in Sribhumi district and former MP Rajdeep Roy at the District Sports Association Playground in Silchar.

Polling for the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly is scheduled to be held on April 9, while counting of votes will take place on May 4.
