MIZORAM — A tragic road accident in Mizoram’s Saitual district has claimed the lives of two young men hailing from Assam’s Cachar district. The incident occurred on Sunday morning near Keifang, sending shockwaves through their home community of Dholai.

The victims have been identified as Akmal Hussain Laskar (popularly known as Shaheen) and Rahul Alam Mazumdar. Both were residents of Khulicherra village.

The duo was transporting a shipment of ginger toward Silchar in a commercial vehicle (registration AS 01SC 7343). At approximately 10:30 am, while navigating a steep and treacherous stretch of road, Laskar—who was behind the wheel—reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle veered off the road and plummeted into a deep gorge. According to preliminary reports:

  • Instant Fatality: The impact was so severe that both Laskar and Mazumdar died at the scene.
  • Vehicle Damage: The goods vehicle sustained extensive structural damage during the fall.

Authorities in Mizoram have launched a formal investigation to determine whether the crash was caused by mechanical failure, road conditions, or driver error.

Family members of the deceased have since traveled from Cachar to Mizoram to coordinate with local officials and complete the necessary legal formalities to bring the bodies home.
