A young woman has died under suspicious circumstances in Guwahati, with police detaining her husband amid allegations that she was poisoned.
The deceased, identified as Shruti Rai (also referred to as Shruti Roy), had married Rupak Sen on January 28 this year. The couple lived in the Bishnupur area near Noonmati and had reportedly entered into a love marriage. This was Sen’s second marriage after a previous divorce.
The incident has raised serious concerns after allegations surfaced that Sen may have poisoned his wife, resulting in her death. Following these suspicions, the Odalbakra Police detained him for questioning as part of the ongoing probe.
Sen, however, has denied the accusations, stating that his wife had been ill for several days. He told police that she was admitted to Marwari Maternity Hospital, where she later died in the intensive care unit (ICU) while receiving treatment.
Police have initiated a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Officials said that the findings of the post-mortem and forensic examinations will be key in establishing whether any foul play was involved.
