GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Assam on February 14 for a high-profile tour marked by major infrastructure milestones. The highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of the long-awaited Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge, a project expected to transform connectivity across the Brahmaputra River.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the Prime Minister will lead a series of official programs, beginning in Upper Assam before heading to the state capital.

Morning Schedule: Air Show at Moran

The Prime Minister’s day will begin at Chabua Airport, where he is scheduled to land at approximately 9:50 AM. From there, he will proceed to Moran, arriving by 10:00 AM.

Attendees can look forward to a spectacular Indian Air Force (IAF) air show shortly after his arrival. The display will feature fighter aircraft reminiscent of the recent Guwahati air show—with several jets expected to perform landings on the Moran runway.

Afternoon: Bridge Inauguration & Public Access

At 12:30 PM, PM Modi will depart Moran for Guwahati. By 1:00 PM, he will officially inaugurate the Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge.

“This bridge is a major architectural achievement of our state Public Works Department,” CM Sarma stated, noting its role in easing chronic traffic congestion and boosting regional development.

Key Public Dates:

  • Feb 14 – March 1: The bridge will be open exclusively for pedestrians to walk and enjoy the scenic views.
  • March 2: The bridge will officially open for vehicular traffic.

The Prime Minister’s visit will also focus on the state’s growing education hub. He is scheduled to inaugurate the temporary campus of IIM Guwahati located at Bongora IT City.

While the institute begins operations at the IT City site, the Chief Minister confirmed that land has already been secured at Palasbari for the construction of a permanent, state-of-the-art campus.

Preparations are currently in full swing across the state. The bridge, which links the main city to North Guwahati, is viewed as a “game-changer” for the local economy and a symbol of Assam’s rapid infrastructure growth under the current administration.
