NAGAON: In a dramatic turn of events, Rajibur Rahman (also identified as Rajibul Islam), the prime accused in the sensational Morikolong dacoity and murder case, was severely injured in a major road accident late Friday night.

The incident occurred at the Barghat (Bargaon Bypass) area in Nagaon town while he was in police custody.

According to police sources, a team from the Nagaon Police was transporting the notorious dacoit late at night for a scene recreation and a targeted operation to recover stolen gold and other valuables tied to the crime.

During the journey, the police vehicle was violently rammed by another speeding vehicle. The impact of the collision was severe:

  • The Accused: Rajibur Rahman, a resident of Lakhimpur district, sustained critical injuries. Medical sources report that both of his legs and one arm have suffered major, extensive damage.
  • The Police: Two Nagaon Police jawans and police officer Biman Gogoi also sustained injuries in the crash.

All injured individuals were rushed to the Nagaon Medical College and Hospital, where they are currently undergoing medical treatment.

Rajibur was arrested as the mastermind behind a brutal heist that took place on the night of April 23–24 at the residence of a prominent local physician, Dr. Ranjit Saikia, in Morikolong, Nagaon town.

During the robbery, a gang armed with iron rods launched a vicious assault on Dr. Saikia and his wife, Ruprekha Bhuyan, before fleeing with gold and valuables.

The Tragic Outcome: Ruprekha Bhuyan suffered catastrophic head injuries during the attack. After battling for her life in a coma for 16 days, she tragically passed away on May 10, elevating the case from dacoity to murder.

“God Will Serve Justice”

The news of the accident and the severe injuries sustained by the prime accused has triggered widespread local coverage. Reacting to the development, Dr. Ranjit Saikia, the grieving husband of the victim, expressed a sense of closure and satisfaction. He remarked that he believed “God will serve justice” to his family for the horrors they endured.
