Guwahati, Assam – A shocking incident of alleged murder has been reported from the Railway Colony in Bamunimaidam, Guwahati, where a young man was brutally assaulted and killed, reportedly after requesting a song by popular Assamese artist Zubeen Garg at a Durga Puja pandal.
The incident occurred late last night at the Durga Puja pandal organized by the Kalibari Jagariti Sangha.
The victim, identified as Avinash Rajak (26), was reportedly dancing at the pandal when he approached the music operator and requested a song by Zubeen Garg.
According to reports, this simple request provoked a violent reaction from a group of local youths. The group, allegedly led by individuals named Agni Sharma, Sujit Sarkar, and Ratul Bora, was reportedly enraged by the request. What followed was a vicious attack, with an estimated 20-25 men descending upon Avinash.
Avinash Rajak was brutally assaulted and left critically injured at the scene. He was immediately rushed to KGMT Hospital in Geetanagar, but tragically succumbed to his severe injuries shortly after being admitted.
The shocking and senseless nature of the crime has sparked considerable tension and outrage in the Bamunimaidam area.
The victim’s family has lodged a formal complaint at the Chandmari Police Station. Authorities have registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. Police are currently working to identify and apprehend all the accused involved in the deadly attack.
This incident has cast a dark shadow over the festive atmosphere of Durga Puja in the city, prompting calls for stricter security measures at public pandals.
