Margherita: A devastating road accident late Tuesday night resulted in the death of one person and left three others fighting for their lives in Margherita town, causing panic and grief among residents.
The accident took place at approximately 9:30 pm in the Hill View locality, a busy area in the centre of the town. Eyewitnesses said a car travelling at high speed hit a woman and her teenage daughter who were walking along the roadside. After hitting the pedestrians, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a nearby wall.
The injured pedestrians were identified as Rita Tanti and her 14-year-old daughter, Nikita Tanti. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Rita Tanti later succumbed to her injuries, while Nikita remains in critical condition.
The two occupants of the car, Harshit Agarwala and Ayush Bansal, also sustained severe injuries in the collision and are currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Local residents alleged that the car was being driven rashly and that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol. They also mentioned that poor visibility due to heavy fog and the driver’s failure to slow down near speed breakers may have played a role in the accident.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. More information is expected as the inquiry progresses.
