DIBRUGARH – In a significant push for rural infrastructure and economic independence, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several high-impact projects in the Dibrugarh district.
The visit highlighted the state government’s dual focus on “bricks and mortar” development and the socio-economic empowerment of rural women.
Key Infrastructure Highlights
The Chief Minister’s visit was marked by the unveiling of four major projects aimed at boosting sports, connectivity, and administrative efficiency:
- Abhaypur Rural Sports Complex: Inaugurated at Moran, this state-of-the-art facility was constructed at a cost of ₹12.32 crore. It features multiple playing fields and training amenities designed to nurture young talent from rural Assam.
- Moran-Nitai Road Expansion: The CM laid the foundation stone for the widening of a 9.3-km stretch (Moran Town Club–Gojpuria–Lukumari). Sanctioned under Asom Mala 3.0, this ₹36.92 crore project is set to boost local trade and connectivity.
- Tingkhong Co-District Commissioner’s Office: A new administrative hub to be built at a cost of ₹19.5 crore to streamline services for the growing sub-division.
- New Moran Police Station: Foundation stone laid for a modern facility under the MOITRI scheme, estimated at ₹2.15 crore.
Fueling a “Silent Economic Revolution”
A major highlight of the day was the distribution of seed money under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA).
Dr. Sarma distributed ₹10,000 each to 23,791 members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) within the Tingkhong Legislative Assembly Constituency. The initiative is designed to encourage entrepreneurship and small-scale income generation among rural women.
“By directly empowering nearly 24,000 ‘baideos’ (sisters) with seed capital, we are igniting a silent economic revolution at the household level,” the Chief Minister stated during the event.
The CM emphasized that while roads and buildings form the backbone of progress, the “true strength” of Assam lies in its people, specifically in building financially independent and resilient women in every home.
