The legacy of Zubeen Garg, Assam’s revered singer and cultural icon, remains vibrantly alive one month after his passing. On October 19th, thousands of admirers are expected to gather for a grand memorial event at his cremation site in Kamarkuchi, Sonapur, to commemorate the day and honor the artist whose music touched millions.
A Harmonious Tribute
The organizers have planned an evening filled with poignant tributes, highlighting the artist’s enduring influence:
Mass Devotional Singing: Approximately 2,000 devotees will participate in a unified chorus of devotional hymns (bhajans).
100 Flutists Performance: Over 100 flutists will perform together, a deeply moving symbol of harmony and remembrance.
Cultural Honour: A traditional Bhaona—an Assamese religious theatre form—will be staged to recognize Zubeen’s significant cultural and spiritual contributions to the state.
Every day, people from all walks of life regardless of caste, creed, or religion—continue to converge at the site. They light diyas (traditional lamps), sing bhajans, and pray, transforming the ground into a sacred space where art, devotion, and collective love for the artist seamlessly merge.
As the sun sets, the memorial ground becomes illuminated by the glow of candles and filled with the resonance of his songs. This daily ritual is a powerful testament that while Zubeen Garg may no longer be with us physically, his spirit is preserved in every note, every heart, and every prayer that echoes his name.
