Sudan is now enduring one of the most devastating humanitarian crises in the world, as over two years of brutal civil war continue to tear the country apart. Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has claimed more than 150,000 lives and displaced at least 12 million people.

In the Darfur region, particularly in the city of El Fasher, famine conditions have reached a catastrophic level. Aid organizations report that no humanitarian assistance has reached parts of Darfur for more than a year, leaving entire communities on the brink of starvation. Witnesses say dozens have already died from hunger, while malnutrition among children is soaring.

The war has also crippled Sudan’s education system, with an estimated 17 million children out of school. Both warring factions face accusations of committing war crimes, including ethnic cleansing and deliberate targeting of civilians. International agencies say the crisis is being worsened by severe restrictions on aid access and continued fighting in populated areas.

Global response to Sudan’s tragedy has been minimal, overshadowed by other international conflicts. Analysts warn that the situation highlights a deeper problem: the weakening of the international system designed to manage such crises. Many see Sudan as a test case for the future of global cooperation, and so far, the world is failing.

Aid groups are urging immediate international intervention, warning that without large-scale humanitarian assistance and diplomatic pressure on both sides, the death toll could climb sharply in the coming months.
