Washington, D.C. – August 16, 2025 — Former President Donald Trump announced he will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on Monday afternoon to discuss what he called a “Peace Agreement” aimed at ending the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

The THE TRUTH SOCIAL post came about half a day after Mr. Trump met with Russian president  Vladimir putin in Alaska. The announcement follows a surprise three-hour meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska on Friday. Though no formal deal was reached, Trump described the talks as “extremely productive.” He later held a late-night call with Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during which they agreed that a full peace agreement—not just a ceasefire—should be the goal.

“The best way to end the horrific war is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, not a Ceasefire Agreement, which often do not hold up,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Details of the proposed agreement remain unknown. Trump did not say whether the plan involves territorial concessions or security guarantees. He added that if Monday’s meeting with Zelenskyy goes well, a follow-up meeting with Putin will be scheduled.

Zelenskyy has made clear he won’t accept any deal that legitimizes Russian control over occupied Ukrainian land or blocks Ukraine from joining NATO—both of which remain key demands from Moscow. Putin, for his part, has insisted on keeping all territory currently held by Russian forces.

This will be the second time Trump and Zelenskyy meet this year. Their March Oval Office meeting ended in conflict, with both sides walking away empty-handed. Trump has made ending the war a centerpiece of his 2025 campaign and claims he could stop the fighting within 24 hours of taking office.

“Millions of lives could be saved,” Trump said Saturday. “We’re closer than people think.”

Whether Monday’s meeting produces results remains to be seen—but it could mark a significant moment in the long-stalled efforts to bring the war to an end.
