Guwahati: In a swift and dramatic operation, the Assam Police successfully rescued a young man within hours of being abducted from Guwahati, arresting four kidnappers after a tense, high-speed pursuit spanning nearly six hours.
The victim, identified as Nasir Ahmed (also known as Juman), a resident of Bishnujyoti Path in Hatigaon, was safely recovered alive and unharmed from a vehicle in Mangaldoi.
The harrowing ordeal began around noon on May 26, when Nasir Ahmed went missing. While initial reports suggested he was taken from outside a shop, details reveal he was abducted from a local homestay in the Hatigaon area.
Initially, the panic-stricken family assumed it was a standard missing person case. However, their worst fears were realized shortly after when they received a chilling phone call from the abductors.
Using Nasir Ahmed’s own mobile phone, the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh for his safe release. The miscreants escalated the terror by threatening to chop the victim into pieces if their monetary demands were not met immediately.
Police Action and a 6-Hour High-Stakes Pursuit
The family immediately rushed to the Hatigaon Police Station and lodged an official complaint. Recognizing the gravity and extreme sensitivity of the situation, the Hatigaon Police swung into immediate action.
A high-stakes operation was launched in close coordination with the Technical Team of DCP East Guwahati.
- Technical Surveillance: Using advanced mobile tracking and precise technical inputs, the police tracked the movement of the suspects in real-time.
- The Route: The kidnappers’ signals showed them heading away from the city toward Mangaldoi in the Darrang district.
- The Chase: As minutes ticked by, the kidnappers continued to make threatening calls to the family, unknowingly allowing the police to narrow down their precise coordinates.
High-Speed Interception and Rescue
Following a tense pursuit lasting nearly six hours, the police team achieved a major breakthrough. They intercepted a Swift Dzire vehicle bearing registration number AS-01BD-7724 in Mangaldoi.
Upon searching the vehicle, cops found Nasir Ahmed inside, bringing the terrifying ordeal to an end. He was recovered without any major injuries.
