GOSSAIGAON, ASSAM — A somber atmosphere has gripped Banglabari village in the Gossaigaon area of Kokrajhar district following a tragic drowning incident that claimed the life of one young girl and left another missing.

The tragedy unfolded during what was supposed to be a routine fishing trip for a group of local children. According to reports:

  • The children had gathered at the banks of the Madati River, which borders their village.
  • Two young girls ventured into deeper sections of the water to bathe.
  • They were quickly overpowered by a strong current and swept away, sparking immediate panic among their companions.

Rescue Operations and Recovery

Upon being alerted, local residents and emergency services rushed to the scene. A joint search and rescue operation was launched by villagers and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
