Guwahati, Assam – The investigation into the mysterious death of beloved Assamese singer Zubeen Garg reached a critical juncture today as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed a voluminous charge sheet before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Guwahati.
The highly anticipated development, filed under FIR No. 18/2025, marks a significant step forward in a case that has gripped Assam and fueled intense public demand for justice.
The charge sheet, spanning nearly 3,500 pages, was submitted by SIT member Rosy Kalita, in the presence of the investigating team’s senior officials. The sheer size of the document reflects the depth of the investigation and the complexity of the circumstances surrounding the celebrated singer’s death.
The SIT, spearheaded by SDGP Munna Prasad Gupta, along with officers Moromi Medhi and Nab Dekai, has spent months meticulously gathering evidence in the high-profile case.
Seven Arrested, Public Demands Justice
SIT Chief Gupta confirmed that the charge sheet compiles a comprehensive body of evidence, including forensic findings, witness statements, and crucial digital records, which will be central to the forthcoming judicial examination.
The probe has so far led to the arrest of seven individuals, all of whom are currently in judicial custody:
- Event Organiser: Shyamkanu Mahanta
- Manager: Siddharth Sharma
- Singer: Amritprabha Mahanta
- Musician: Shekhar Jyoti Goswami
- Cousin and DSP: Sandipan Garg
- Personal Security Officers (PSOs): Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora
The court premises today saw a massive gathering of Zubeen Garg’s admirers, many holding placards and echoing the fervent online mobilization under the banner of “Justice for Zubeen.” SIT sources revealed that more than 300 individuals, including event organisers, associates, colleagues, and eyewitnesses, were questioned during the intensive investigation.
Zubeen Garg, one of the state’s most influential cultural icons, died under circumstances that triggered widespread shock and speculation across the state.
According to SDGP Gupta, the filing of the charge sheet now officially sets the stage for the judicial process to move into its next phase. With the comprehensive documentation now before the court, the state government moves closer to legal clarity on the incident, even as fans continue to rally for a transparent and decisive conclusion.
