Zubeen had traveled to Singapore to take part in the Northeast Festival, a celebration showcasing the region’s vibrant culture and music, where he was slated to perform. While engaging in a recreational scuba diving session, he accidentally fell into the sea and lost consciousness. Authorities in Singapore promptly rescued him and transported him to a hospital. Despite the doctors’ intensive efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead on the same day.

Known for his soulful voice and profound impact on Assamese and Northeastern music, Zubeen Garg touched hearts through his songs that celebrated cultural identity. His diverse musical career, spanning numerous languages and styles, made him a cherished icon not only in Assam but throughout India.
