BIJNI: In a major breakthrough against the regional drug trade, police in Assam’s Chirang district executed two separate, back-to-back night operations, resulting in the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers and the recovery of a significant cache of contraband.
Operation 1: Trap at the Bijni Flyover
Acting on precise intelligence, a police team spearheaded by Ritujyoti Nath, the Officer-in-Charge of the Bijni Police Station, set up an ambush near the Bijni flyover.
The operation led to the apprehension of 25-year-old Sansul Hussain Laskar, a resident of the Jamalpur area in Cachar district. Upon searching the suspect, officers uncovered seven soap boxes packed with suspected narcotics, weighing in at approximately 263.06 grams.
Operation 2: Raid in Palengbari
In a parallel crackdown, authorities targeted the Palengbari area under the jurisdiction of the Panbari Police Station. This operation was jointly led by Circle Officer Ritul Mani Das and Officer-in-Charge Binoy Malakar.
During this raid, police intercepted and arrested Gazir Rahman, a resident of Maharipara in Puran Bijni. A thorough search of the accused yielded 44 plastic containers filled with suspected drugs, alongside a mobile device used for communication.
Current Status: Both suspects are currently in police custody. Officials have confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway to trace the broader supply chain and uncover further linkages to this trafficking network.
