The meteoric rise of 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has hit a sudden legal speed bump. Despite a historic season on the pitch, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) youngster is now the subject of a potential FIR after a social activist labeled his participation in the IPL as “child labour.”

Karnataka based social activist CM Shivakumar Nayak has threatened to take legal action against the Rajasthan Royals management. During a heated televised debate on a Kannada news channel, Nayak argued that the high-pressure environment of professional cricket is no place for a minor.

“This 15-year-old boy is being exploited,” Nayak stated. “He should be focusing on his studies and completing his education instead of being pushed into a professional league. This sets a dangerous precedent for children across the country.”

Nayak’s core argument rests on the claim that Sooryavanshi’s involvement violates child rights and labor laws, regardless of the fame and fortune associated with the tournament.

The Legal Context

Under current Indian law, the situation resides in a nuanced gray area:

  • Under 14: Barred from almost all forms of employment.
  • Ages 14–18: Permitted to work in non-hazardous sectors under specific regulations.

While professional sports are rarely categorized as “labour” in the traditional sense, Nayak insists that the mental and physical toll of the IPL qualifies as exploitation of a minor.

The legal threat is just the latest chapter in what has been a rollercoaster year for the teenager. On the field, Sooryavanshi has been nothing short of a phenomenon:

  • Fastest Milestones: He recently became the youngest player to reach 1,000 T20 runs, achieving the feat in a blistering 473 balls.
  • Century Machine: He smashed a 36-ball century against Sunrisers Hyderabad this season, the third-fastest in IPL history.
  • Giant Killer: The southpaw has shown no fear against world-class veterans like Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult.

However, his journey hasn’t been without friction. Earlier this season, he faced bizarre accusations of using an AI chip in his bat and was briefly labeled “unprofessional” by critics during a dip in form.

As the Rajasthan Royals management prepares to address the threat of an FIR, the cricketing world is divided. While some side with Nayak, arguing for the protection of childhood, the majority of fans see Sooryavanshi as a generational talent who is simply “too good to wait.”

For now, the 15-year-old remains the most talked-about name in the league—though he’s now making as many headlines in the courtroom as he is in the commentary box.
