GUWAHATI – Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to land in Assam this Thursday for a two-day strategic visit. His itinerary focuses heavily on fortifying national borders, boosting rural infrastructure, and reviewing internal security measures.
Securing the Indo-Bangladesh Border
The Home Minister will kick off his tour in Silchar, specifically targeting the border village of Natanpur in the Katigorah region. This visit is a critical “boots-on-the-ground” assessment of the Indo-Bangladesh frontier.
Shah is expected to:
- Audit Fencing Progress: Inspect the physical and technological barriers designed to prevent illegal migration and smuggling.
- Consult Security Forces: Meet directly with personnel and local district officials to evaluate regional stability and defense readiness.
Empowering Frontier Communities
A major highlight of the trip is the official launch of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP 2.0). This second phase of the central initiative is designed to turn remote border settlements into thriving, self-reliant hubs.
The program aims to revitalize these areas through:
- Infrastructure: Upgrading road networks and telecommunication grids.
- Economic Stability: Creating sustainable local livelihoods to prevent migration from border regions to urban centers.
A Comprehensive Security Review
Beyond border management, the Home Minister’s visit serves as a broader review of Assam’s internal security landscape. By engaging with both law enforcement and administrative bodies, the visit underscores the government’s dual focus: impenetrable borders and prosperous frontier communities.
