Guwahati, November 18 — In a massive, heartfelt tribute to the late cultural icon Zubeen Garg (born November 18, 1972), the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is observing this year’s National Pride Day across the state as a celebration of the legendary singer’s birthday. The day-long commemoration blends humanitarian service with an immense cultural homage to the “Heartthrob of Assam.”
Statewide Blood Donation Drive
The day’s events began at the party’s Ambari Main Office in Guwahati with a significant Blood Donation Camp at 9 AM. AGP president Atul Bora inaugurated the drive, setting a humanitarian tone that reflects Zubeen Garg’s own philanthropic spirit. All AGP units across the state are participating in similar blood donation drives as part of the National Pride Day celebrations, offering a tangible tribute to the singer’s memory.
Grand Musical Homage Near Dighali Pukhuri
The main program for National Pride Day is scheduled to commence at 10 AM at the Lakhidhar Borah Khetra near Dighali Pukhuri.
The tribute event, dedicated to Zubeen Garg’s enduring legacy, will be formally inaugurated by senior actor and director Nilu Chakraborty. The function will also feature notable speaker Dr. Hitesh Baruah, a renowned doctor and music director, who will address the gathering.
A massive highlight of the day is the musical performance where over a thousand AGP members will perform a selection of Zubeen Garg’s timeless songs, organized by the party to celebrate his unparalleled contribution to Assamese music.
Further honouring the singer’s known love for nature, Nahor saplings will be planted at multiple locations across Guwahati. This symbolic plantation drive aims to preserve the memory of the multifaceted artist, whose influence on Assam’s cultural and social fabric remains indelible.
All units of the Assam Gana Parishad across the state have been directed to participate in the National Pride Day celebrations, ensuring the commemoration is a unified and widespread tribute to Zubeen Garg.
