Imphal: In a major breakthrough against the recruitment of minors into insurgent groups, a joint security team arrested two female cadres of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and rescued three kidnapped girls during multiple operations across Manipur on Tuesday.

The coordinated crackdown was carried out by the Assam Rifles, Manipur Police commandos, and women police personnel across the districts of Thoubal, Kakching, and Imphal West.

The Operation and Arrests

Following reports of the abduction of three minors from Kakching Khunou Ngaikhong Leikai on Monday, security forces launched a swift investigation. The trail led them to the Khangabok area in Thoubal district, where the two female insurgents were apprehended.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Khundrakpam (o) Ningthoujam Roshidiya (24) of Khangabok Khulakpam Leikai.
  • Lisham (o) Bidya (30) of Thoubal Haokha Maning Leikai.

Rescue of the Minors

Police officials confirmed that the three girls were abducted with the intent of forced recruitment into the outlawed PREPAK. Following the leads generated from the arrests, the girls were successfully tracked down and rescued from Uchiwa Awang Leikai in Imphal West district.

In compliance with the Juvenile Justice Act, the identities of the rescued minors have been withheld. They have since been safely reunited with their parents.

Seizures and Legal Action

During the operations, security forces recovered several items linked to the crime, including:

  • Incriminating documents related to the insurgent group.
  • A white Maruti 800 (Registration No: MN-06-1329), which was allegedly used to transport the kidnapped girls.

The arrested cadres and the seized items have been handed over to the relevant police station for further legal proceedings. Authorities stated that efforts are still underway to track down and arrest other accomplices involved in the kidnapping ring.
